Notebook poem

Don't you dare despair the dawn.
When coffee machines start turning on
And early joggers start to run
I tell you: "after dark, comes sun"
In the country, roosters start to crow
The paper boys deliver down the rows
Houses will wake before too long
So patience, and do not despair the dawn.
When the passed over come out from under the overpass
When the hung-over start trying to remember what went wrong
When commercial moms squeeze commercial oranges in a glass
You will know why you waited for the dawn.
You will know, when you see - once more - the sun.
